I thought you should be able to build a single framework that works  
with and without GC and on older versions of OS X.  Have you set the  
deployment target to, say, 10.3 (assuming you're not using 10.4+  
APIs)?  Sorry, I haven't checked out the latest Sparkle from bzr, yet,  
otherwise I'd check myself.
