Slightly echoing some of the other comments here, as both a developer
and a user, I either like or don't mind having the first thing be "can
I check for updates plz." It sets the right tone for the program (i.e.
it asks rather than just "doing stuff") and happens at the right point
in the experience (during the install/getting-to-know-you phase).
Second launch seems weird; I'd like the app to put on its new shirt
before our first date, not our second.
