  Errr... sorry, but could you change that to "after a day" or  
something? Many apps these days are kept running for weeks without a  
restart, e.g. the Talking Moose generally starts up with your Mac and  
just stays running, so they user may not see the update check alert  
until weeks later. If the app crashes, there may be a second launch,  
but really, check on startup would be my preferred choice, still.

  This really is an issue with boxed software; it's just not feasible  
to throw away all old boxes on every dot-update and redistribute them  
to the publishers, not to mention it would cost a fortune.
