Well, if the other change you made is put in, to wait until the second  
launch to ask whether to check for updates, it seems like having the  
checkbox where it is currently isn't so sketchy anymore, since it will  
no longer be the first thing the user sees upon opening the app.

I suppose another option would be to have the checkbox in the update  
window, but only show it the first time and have it hidden on  
subsequent updates if the user doesn't check it the first time.
